Playa Santispac
Playa Santispac is a beach just south of Mulegé on the Sea of Cortez. But it’s actually not really a beach. It’s more of an expat village on the water.
The Details
- This is not “free parking” for your rig on a sandy beach. It’s paid … and it’s usually full. This is where a lot of Canadians and Americans come each winter to enjoy something other than cold and snow. So the better spaces are almost always taken.
- The beach is easily reachable from route 1. It’s just a short downhill on a dirt road. Pay at the gate and pick your spot.
- Most mornings you will have the option to purchase fish, shrimp, and produce from vendors who make a pass along all of the beaches. Yes, you can haggle prices, but we found them to be reasonable.
- There are two restaurants, one of which serves mostly “bar food” (Restaurante Bar Ana) and the other offers a slightly more extensive menu (Antonio’s). Both are good and you will usually find a few residents there during happy hour.
- There is actually a separate beach area at the far side of Santispac, which is quite a bit different from the main beach. Few people park back there, but it’s a nice walk.

On a Personal Note
We enjoyed our short stay here. The fresh shrimp we purchased from a nice lady in an SUV made for a yummy Shrimp and Grits dish we shared with our neighbors. There is honestly little to do here except relax. Unless you bring your own entertainment, paddle boards, kayaks, etc.
We consider this a “quick stop” while traveling, because even though there are no hook-ups, you still have to pay to stay. And we know of so many equally beautiful spots that are free. This one is easy to get to, and the roving vendors make trips into town that less frequent, so for those that stay here, I suppose it’s worth it.
