Bahia de LOS ANGELES
Bahia de San Luis Gonzaga is basically a wide spot on route 5, but it is a great place to overnight on your way north or south.
The Details
- This is not a close place to get to, but very worth it. From MEX-1 you will need to travel down MEX-12 (don’t worry, it’s not a bad road at all). The town of Bahia de Los Angeles is small/medium and we honestly didn’t stay long there. They have a fresh water statio with a hose and a couple of markets.
- But we were there to go to Playa La Gringa, a free beach about 20-30 minutes away (depending on how fast you’re comfortable driving down dirt roads). The ride isn’t bad and the dirt section not all that long, maybe a kilometer. But the beach!
- We stayed for several days. It was tremendously windy and the tides can be quite high, surrounding the parking spit of land and making you wonder if the water will cover it. (It does in places, the further down you do towards the point.
- There is a lady who will come by every few days to pick up your trash (there are no cans) and she also will take donations. The place is perfectly clean and this is what keeps it that way. Give her $100MX and everyone’s happy.

On a Personal Note
We just kept staying here. LOL! We showed up to rest and every morning just said … one more day, ok? It’s absolutely beautiful. Not too crowded on the weekends, just the usual families. And you can hike into the desert hills behind the beach for hours. The point is fenced off as a natural area, but it is accessible in places. This is definitely going to be a return visit, even if it’s quite a ways off of the usual MEX-1 travels.
