Loreto
Loreto was once the capital of Baja California Sur, but is now just a really nice beach town. But beware, RV life here requires some diligence. The roadways are very narrow in town and you can easily get yourself in places you shouldn’t.
The Details
- There is a small, but very nice downtown area, filled with shops and restaurants. We ate at several and found all to be wonderful. Some notables are Claudias Margaritas Loreto (get the Mango/Jalapeño one), Posada De Las Flores Loreto (great rooftop), and Santo Cielo Cocina Gourmet (great music and food).
- The first time we were here, w had initially wanted to park in a place called Romanitas, but both Google Maps and our Garmin couldn’t find a way in. We eventually did, and discovered that it’s a wonderful place to stay and filled with good vibe folks. But to get to it you actually have to drive on sidewalks, not streets. If you do want to stay there, park close and walk it in. It’s supposed to be big rig friendly, but it would have been close with our bus.
- We actually stayed at a place called Rivera a few blocks outside of the main area. It’s a tight location, but they managed to find spots for us overnight. Good showers and it had full hookups. This is where we stayed the second time as well. Good folks.
- We did take a boat tour, seeing whales, dolphins, sea lions, and Coronado Island, which had a beautiful beach. It’s a five hour tour and usually private … and we really enjoyed it.

On a Personal Note
I do enjoy Loreto, even though as a city isn’t kinda limiting. But maybe that’s a good thing. It’s entirely walkable, the people are warm and welcoming, and the food is pretty damn decent. We’ve been here twice and stayed at the same RV park each time, Rivera. it’s run by a very nice lade (Isabella, I think?). It’s only 5 blocks fro Centro.
Speaking of Centro, when last we were here (March 2024) they were pouring some money into the area. Upgrading sidewalks and making the entire historical area just a little bit nicer. Food prices are kinda pricey in that area, but once you get outside, they become more reasonable.
